Grading Policies
An accumulative grade of “C+” is required to receive credit for all nursing courses. If a test must be taken at a time other than the scheduled time, prior arrangement must be made with the instructor. If it is necessary to delay a test due to illness or emergency, the student is responsible for notifying the instructor and making arrangements to take the test. A penalty affecting your grade may be assessed at the discretion of individual instructors for any test taken late (see specific course syllabus).

Written Work
Written work will be completed and handed in on time. Late work may be assessed a penalty affecting your grade at the discretion of individual instructors (see specific course syllabus). All papers are to be typed or neatly written or printed in black ink. Grading of papers will include spelling, grammar, punctuation, neatness, and sentence structure.
Testing:
Missing a scheduled test will result in a 5% reduction per day from the final test score. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor and make arrangements to take the test. Failure to do so will result in a zero for that test.
Students will be responsible for keeping their own experience booklets (procedure) up to date and for getting them signed by their clinical instructors on the day performed. This booklet indicates the skill levels a student has acquired and will become a part of the permanent record. The booklet may then be used to help make recommendations to potential employers.
Attendance: Theory Class & Laboratory
Didactic material will be covered very quickly over two semesters. If you are not in class, you cannot learn and may miss needed information. Lab is included in your grade for the class, and therefore attendance is mandatory. If an absence is unavoidable, the instructor must be notified prior to the absence, preferably by the student. Each student will be allowed three absences per semester, in class & lab combined. After three absences, each missed day will result in a 2.5% reduction in the student’s final grade.
Tardies: three tardies will be counted as an absence.
Children are disruptive and are not to be brought to class or to examinations. Sick children expose class members to infection, thereby contributing to the absence of students.
Breaks will be given during the class periods. These breaks are for the purpose of taking care of personal needs. Please do not disrupt the classes by leaving during class time. If there is a particular problem, please discuss with your instructor.
Attendance: Clinical Experience
The clinical experience allows students the opportunity to synthesize and practice theory in a clinical setting; therefore attendance is mandatory for clinical experience. Students must be in their assigned clinical area or they will be counted as absent. Three tardies will be counted as one unexcused absence. If an absence is necessary, as in the case of illness or family emergency, the instructor must be notified prior to the absence and according to the preference of the particular instructor. An unexcused absence will result in a zero for the day. Due to time restraints and prohibitive costs there are no scheduled “make-up day”.
Withdrawal or Dismissal Policy
If you wish to withdraw from the program, or feel that it is necessary to do so, please request an interview with the director of the program to discuss the problem. Students may apply to re-enter the program within the next year. Their acceptance will depend upon available space in the program.
